Judiciary’s In-House Inquiry Against Delhi High Court Judge The Chief Justice of India has initiated an in-house inquiry against a Delhi High Court judge, marking a rare instance of judicial accountability. The inquiry process involves a three-member committee examining allegations and determining whether they hold merit. If misconduct is established, the report is sent to the President for consideration of removal via impeachment. The in-house inquiry mechanism is distinct from impeachment, which requires parliamentary approval. Govt Notifies Revised Criteria for Classifying MSMEs The government has revised the criteria for classifying Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), effective from April 1, 2025. The new criteria aim to simplify classification and enhance access to government schemes. MSMEs play a vital role in India’s economic development, employing over 24 crore people and contributing significantly to exports. Challenges faced by MSMEs include limited access to finance, low technology adoption, and delayed payments from buyers. Initiatives like the Udyam Registration Portal and Public Procurement Policy for MSEs aim to address these issues. DNA’s Role in Identification DNA has become crucial in forensic science for identifying individuals and solving crimes. It acts like a biological fingerprint, unique to each person. DNA analysis is used in paternity testing, disaster victim identification, and solving cold cases by analyzing archived crime scene materials. The use of DNA in identification highlights its stability and versatility, making it an essential tool in modern forensic investigations. Pay Hike for MPs The Centre has notified a 24% increase in the salaries of MPs, effective from April 1, 2023. This hike brings the monthly salary to ₹1.24 lakh, up from ₹1 lakh. The daily allowance has also been increased from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500. The pension for former MPs has risen from ₹25,000 to ₹31,000 per month. Blue Flag Tag Rushikonda Beach in Visakhapatnam has regained the Blue Flag certification, joining 12 other Indian beaches with this eco-label.
