LILIS Skincare Review

By reader request, a review of the Korean body care line.

The post LILIS Skincare Review appeared first on The Stripe.

LILIS wasn’t on my radar until a reader asked me if I had thoughts on the brand. It was an immediate Google, and I liked what I found out. After reading about them, I immediately ordered two products (the instant peel and the firming serum). I’ve been using them for over a month and am impressed. They are proper skincare (but for the body) products, meant to care for the skin on your body as well as we care for the skin on our faces.

Lilis Skincare review

Helen Shin founded LILIS in 2023. Prior to founding the brand, Shin was a creative director, with roles at big agencies like Saatchi & Saatchi and McGarryBowen. Her mother’s experience with a rare form of eczema prompted her to create the line. Her mother was battling cancer and dealing with severely dry and flaky skin. She’d spend hours in the shower, using a traditional Korean exfoliating mitt. Nothing worked. Shin wanted to create a gentle, effective solution to help her mother and others.

Today, LILIS is carried by luxury retailers like Violet Grey and Moda Operandi. It revolutionizes body care by merging the art and science of Korean beauty, with a focus on the skin below the chin.

The instant peel and the firming serum function beautifully on their own, but the real magic occurs when you use them together. I love that they also sell a set with both products (at a nice little savings!). I use the peel before showering and then apply the serum afterward when I’ve dried off. I find they are the perfect pre-self-tan treatment. I love both products, but I think you could get away with buying just the peel and then using any old body serum or lotion afterward. The peel is the real MVP, in my eyes!

Korean Body Resurfacing Instant Peel

This peel is the first step before the shower. If you loved the Huda Beauty Wishful Scrub (seemingly discontinued, which is so sad!) for your face, you’ll love this. It’s highly satisfying; you will feel like a snake shedding off layers of dead skin.

To use it, apply a thin layer onto dry skin. I do this standing in my shower, as a pre-shower treatment to minimize mess. Rub skin all over in a circular motion. This activates the exfoliant, sloughing off dead skin cells. The dead skin literally rolls off, like glue. Shower and be sure to wash your skin thoroughly. You will feel brand new afterward. The product page says that you can do it 2-3 times a week, but as a person with very dry skin, I think once a week is more than enough.

The peel dissolves the bonds between dead skin cells, lifting away buildup without disrupting the skin’s barrier. It activates on contact, visibly pilling as it binds to impurities, dullness, and debris. The key ingredients are arbutin (to brighten and even skin tone), bakuchiol (a plant-based “retinol” that helps with anti-aging), calming artemisia princeps extract, anti-inflammatory ingredients asiaticoside and madecassoside, and amaranth seed extract, which is an antioxidant that helps support the skin barrier.

The brand has run clinical trials. In a study of 20 people with various skin types and ages, 96% said their skin felt smoother!

Korean Body Resurfacing Firming Serum

After using the peel, I like to use this serum after my shower. I will fully towel off and apply a thin layer all over my body. I like that it is lightweight (again, perfect before self-tanning) but still very potent. You could also do a layer of body cream or oil over it! It’s more of a gel-serum formula, which is nice for the warmer months.

The formula absorbs instantly–smoothing, firming, and brightening. It boosts collagen and helps to hydrate and renew the skin. The key ingredients are bakuchiol (again, that plant-based retinol alternative) to stimulate collagen and help reduce the signs of aging, lactobacillus ferment (helps with renewal and texture), the brand’s proprietary hydration blend of hyaluronic acid, Acquacell™, and pantehnol, antioxidants, and arbutin (also in the peel – helps to brighten and even the skin)

The product absorbs instantly to deliver firming, brightening, and smoothing results. The formula combines collagen-boosting and skin-renewing plant-based ingredients with a hydration-intense blend of hyaluronic acid, Acquacell™, and panthenol to improve skin texture and tone visibly.
